I'm having a problem with the cad files provided. The files can't open because they were saved in a newer version of Autocad than the one I have. Can you provide me with the files saved in an earlier version so that I can open them easily?
We have two versions of the file now, one in 2020 and one in 2013.

I have registered through Western Union but didn’t receive a registration code yet, how come? We will not be able to know if you registered through Western Union until you send us your payment receipt and the MTC code.

I'm not able to open/download the pdf of registration instructions given through the link via the confirmation email. While loading, the link breaks and after a few tries, the link expires. How can I fix this? Email us and we will send you a registration form to fill out.

I paid last year's fee but missed the deadline for submission of my graduation project. Do I need to pay the fee again to register this year? If you registered last year, you are unable to register again this year, even if you didn’t submit your project.

I finalized my registration for the competition, but I did not receive any confirmation mail. Do my team and I have a participation code or are there further instructions to proceed further? Yes, check your spam folder. Sometimes our emails go to spam folders.

My team has two members - does that mean we need two registration codes?
No, each team only needs to register once.

I live in a country where there are restrictions on bank transactions and Western Union (Iran, Sudan, etc); do you have a solution for registration?  A friend or a relative living somewhere else can make a Western Union payment for you, this is the most common option.

I have received two different emails with two different registration codes, which one do I use? Email us and let us know. It will be solved case by case.

2020 Competition Questions

Is there a certain number of users which will be using the youth house?
There are no forecasted numbers of users but it will be the only non-athletic centre in a city of two million people.

The site location as provided in the brief cuts over Thawra Street. Will this part of the street be included in the design by bridges etc, or is it possible to consider it a pedestrian street?
This part of Thawra Street has to be turned into a pedestrian area, only light traffic (TokTok) and emergency vehicles should be allowed on a defined carriageway. Traffic design of the diverted motor traffic way is not the responsibility of the participants.

Can you provide us with youth population percentages in the area? Or any relevant population data that might help us conduct a suitable architecture programme?
There has been no population census done in Iraq since 1997. Governmental figures show that 65% of the population is below 35 years old and Sadr/Tharwa City is a reflection of Iraq.

The urban fabric as shown in the maps includes pedestrian buildings and other facilities. Is there any further details regarding building heights, building conditions, etc?
Please have a look at the images of the city provided in the images folder.

Regarding the building height, is it mandatory to build up to 30 metres high or is it possible for the building to be two floors or a single floor?
30 metres is the maximum height allowed.

Does Thawra Street have to stay as a functional street in the project site or not? This question also applies on the internal roads that are adjacent to the site plot.
As mentioned in the competition brief, the motor traffic on Thawra Street through the project site should be diverted to underground to keep an unobstructed pedestrian flow between the Youth House and Plaza, allowing for nicely designed shopping and street food stalls and other street furniture on the Plaza.

Only light traffic (TokTok) and emergency vehicles should be allowed on a defined carriageway. Traffic design of the diverted motor traffic way is not the responsibility of the participants. The access to the project/public car park should occur via the level of the diverted motor traffic way. Regarding side streets/internal roads, the decision is left to the designers.

Will the existing buildings on the site be demolished?
Yes.

Could we provide a traffic solution for Thawra street (i.e. underpass or tunnel) in order to avoid the intersection with the site?
As mentioned in the competition brief, the motor traffic on Thawra Street through the project site should be diverted to underground to keep an unobstructed pedestrian flow between the Youth House and Plaza, allowing for nicely designed shopping and street food stalls and other street furniture on the Plaza.

As mentioned in the competition brief, the building should be merged with the context and the architecture language of the area. How far can I design an outstanding building that is unique and different from the surroundings as it is part of my concept?
This is up to the designer to decide.

Is the youth house for both genders or males only? If it is for both can I choose to target only males?
It is for both. You can choose what you target too.

Which dwg file is correct to use for further drawing, site or Baghdad’s Al Sadr? Because it seems that territories have been switched in files.
The competition site is sectors 34 and 43.

Can we also make linkages to both the nearest schools? For example, can we make appropriate designs in the small streets that separate the school area from the competition territory to connect and make the territory more involved in the surroundings?
Yes you can.

In the site map the building footprint is 25,000, while in the requirements it is preferred to be between 10,000-15,000. Does this mean we are allowed to use only a maximum of 15,000 in the defined parcel?
Yes, you are allowed to build from 10,000-15,000. The 25,000 is the plot for the building and its outer grounds. You can’t build outside the allocated 25,000.

Would it be possible to exceed the defined maximum height of the building through open-air structures?
Yes.

Would it be possible to have underground built up structures underneath the parcel designated for the public plaza?
Yes, as long as there is space for the diverted traffic.
